Exposing One Life Versus Many Lives

. . . and the judgments that keep good people apart!

The world and its people are littered with the debris of falsehoods; the divisions that have sprung up from them are vast. Yet, there is a way to bring these beliefs and layers of understanding together . . . to live peacefully in the same world.

There is no need to give up personal beliefs for those of another, but you can allow them to be unique individuals using compromise and understanding as keys. One topic that causes such division and mythical hatred is the idea of our importance in the scheme of eternity. The religious viewpoint is that the is one life only. Coupled with time is precious, it allows followers to experience life through this lens. Another viewpoint, that we have had many lives, is coupled with the belief that we get to have second chances, so forgive and try again.

If we were to ask what the differences are  . . . we would expose layers of misgiving and dis-information that swirl around the taverns of spiritual acceptance and tolerance. Both viewpoints have a common footing – they are both a matter of perspective and experience. A human belief in one life only forfeits any experiences that allow other lifetimes to bleed in to reveal a multi-dimensional existence. It also creates an environment in which the current life is precious, influencing the idea of having only one chance to curb any heinous actions that might occur. These beliefs squeeze the essence of life, like trying to form a diamond under extreme pressure before the kiln of life burns out. That is the greatest advantage of this belief system . . . to make the most of life and extract from it all that it can offer, taking nothing for granted.

A person’s belief in many lives brings opportunities that can literally be classified as out of this world and bring added dimensions of understanding and tolerance into life. This belief relaxes the squeeze a little, and the diamond is formed with conscious awareness rather than pressure. Unanswered questions from the “one life only” belief system are answered in this one, and there is greater satisfaction in learning - who I am and why I am. This system’s greatest advantage is the capacity for scope and understanding on a universal level –  the picture of life becomes bigger, and choices that would otherwise never exist open up.

If the belief in only one life brings an urgency that life is precious, and the belief in many lives brings added scope and options, then would it not be preferable to embrace both? Both belief systems have purpose, and both have distinct advantages. It occurs to me that if we harness both, we are left with a third advantage – holding two candles to light our path and find our way home.

It is reasonable to assume that if humans have followed both belief systems for thousands of years, then they must work to some degree and have individual benefits, or they would have fizzled out and been lost in the sands of time.

Their individual limitations also provide a key to learning about our own limitations. The one life belief system is typically reinforced by fear. Whilst the urgency to form that soul diamond in one life can bring in a positive focus, it also ushers in the fear of death, of not being good enough, not making it, demanding forgiveness and many other less-than-positive energies. Perhaps this is why humans desperately need an intermediary or interceding personage – to alleviate the lack of trust in themselves and the pressure of responsibility. Perhaps adopting an understanding of the other belief system would open up new options, and fear would be transcended into a powerful and expanded view. Any figurehead of this blended religious system would bring profound psychological relief based on a multi-dimensional platform of immense scale, and instead of disappearing, would become historically greater rather than diminishing in stature over time.

The many lives belief system, whilst open to other dimensions of thought, often lacks urgency for humans to take the road less travelled and gain an elevated perspective of themselves. The single-mindedness of the other belief system harnesses a faithful focus and dedication to one path and an attraction to a guiding Source (known by many titles). This is lost to those who wander aimlessly in the fields of life.

It is possible that the one life belief system finds those with soul and heart directing their life towards the light and love of that unfathomable entity (God-Source), whilst the many lives belief system opens up the landscapes of existence beyond this one temporal life.

Is it possible that we are to treat this life as precious as the one life belief system, and at the same time, with that single focused intent, navigate the realms and landscapes that the many lives offer us with its signposts and path markers? Surely there is a map back to Source (God, Allah, Krishna, etc.), and whilst this current life has the dedication and direction, do the other lives hint at the way?

The only conclusion we can draw is that we came from that Source, and our return is neither an accident nor random and unmeasured. It is thoughtful and kind, well-planned and purposeful . . . and it would stand to reason that upon our descent into time, space, matter, or duality, we left clues for ourselves. Out of love and compassion, we left footprints ever held by our own magnetic signature, which only we could find and follow.

But the gravity of duality takes its toll and ever separates those who are captured in its thrall. They either forget that life is precious because in it they have the opportunity to hear their Father's voice, or they squander it on frivolous pathways that lead to fantasy and nowhere in particular.

We see then that different systems are not mutually exclusive. At the advent of Spirit reaching a certain level of maturity, all coalesce onto one path, a path that merges both the precious breath of one life and the vast landscapes of existence that lie in the unknown future.
